Baker to speak at ATFC Annual Meeting Nov. 5

From The Beacon, June 2005, Vol. XXXI, No. 6

Charles Baker, president and CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, will be the keynote speaker at the Association of Town Finance Committees Annual Meeting on Saturday, Nov. 5, in Worcester.

Baker, a former state secretary for Administration and Finance, will discuss health care trends and what the rising costs mean for municipalities.

The meeting will open with an interactive panel discussion, “The Fiscal Future of Massachusetts.” The session will feature speakers with differing opinions on where the state is headed.

Eight workshops will be held on topics including an overview of local aid and Cherry Sheets, the budget process, an update from the bureau chiefs of the Division of Local Services, regional school funding issues, and a seminar designed for new members.

The meeting, to be held at the Hogan Conference Center at Holy Cross College, will begin with the association’s business meeting at 9 a.m. and run through 3:15 p.m.

The cost is $55 for attendees from ATFC dues-paying communities and $65 for nonmembers. An agenda will be mailed to all ATFC members and board of selectmen chairs in early September.
