Municipal Health Care- Finding the Right Strategy for Your Community-11/4/09 Conference Summary

MIIA is pleased to support the Massachusetts Municipal Management Association's ongoing efforts in providing education and resources to its members in the area of health insurance. Municipalities throughout the commonwealth struggle to find ways of dealing with health care costs. Over the past year, many of you have indicated the importance of access to best practices and tools to help mitigate those costs and implement changes in a union environment.

To this end, MIIA has worked collaboratively with the MMMA in assembling examples of those communities that have achieved noteworthy results in their efforts to implement health care changes. These examples were highlighted at a conference on November 4, 2009. Health care consultants, attorneys, town managers and HR managers all spoke at this event, which over 150 people attended.

All of the materials distributed at the event are available here. Scroll through the agenda to find the materials that were presented with each session. The Case Studies in particular should provide a glimpse in to what other towns are doing to control health care costs in a union environment. The entire conference was recorded and video will be available here shortly.

MIIA looks forward to continuing a partnership with the MMMA on this important issue.
