Skate Park Guidelines
If your municipality is considering operating a skateboarding/in-line skating facility, the three most important areas are supervision, protective gear, and rules/warning signs. The proposed facility should be supervised at all times when it is open to the general public. The person or supervisor in charge of the facility must have sufficient knowledge of skateboarding/in-line skating to enable him/her to review and determine the skill level of the skaters before permitting them to use of the facility. The facility should be divided into designated areas for beginners and more experienced skaters. The supervisor also should be trained in CPR and first aid care.

Pre-Placement Physical Examination Manual
This manual will provide you with easy-to-follow procedures as well as sample documents to utilize in implementing a program of pre-placement physical examinations.

MIIA has long believed in the importance of assuring that prospective employees are physically capable of performing the essential functions of the job for which they are being considered. One of the best ways to determine the physical qualifications of a prospective employee is by a pre-placement physical examination. In recent years, the issue of pre-placement physical examinations has been somewhat complicated by the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. In addition, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in MGL Chapter 151B has a body of law regarding disabilities. The purpose of this manual is to outline the procedures to be followed in setting up and administering a program of pre-placement physical examinations which is in accordance with MGL Chapter 151 B and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The development, publication and implementation of employee safety guidelines are an essential element in a successful loss control program. Adopting written safety guidelines helps department heads and supervisors by providing minimum standards of safety performance that should be met or exceeded by departmental employees. This document provides samples of safety guidelines for municipal employees in general as well as for specific operating departments including Public Works, School, and Maintenance. This sample handbook can be used as a guideline for developing safety rules and regulations for your own municipality or entity.
