Online Training Program
The MIIA staff is pleased and excited to introduce our internet based training program. The goal of this program is to provide you with an additional resource for safety knowledge and training that can be easily accessed at the time and place of your choice. For 2007 the program offers twelve courses for your use. They include a number of topics such as:

  • Confined Spaces
  • Effective Supervision
  • Preventing Back Injury
  • Hand and Power Tools
  • Office Ergonomics
  • Preventing Slips, Trips & Falls
  • Preventing Cuts and Puncture Wounds
  • Extreme Driving
  • First Aid
  • Heat Stress
  • Office Safety
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

MIIA’s online training is internet-based. To access the training, click here. Before you begin please refer to the MIIA Online Training “Getting Started Packet” below. Each MIIA member’s training coordinator can sign up employees to have access to the training sessions. To enroll in the training it is necessary to see your training coordinator/administrator who will complete the user enrollment template. It is very important that he/she fill in all the required information so users can be properly setup. Please have the user template completed by him/her and sent or emailed back to Lin Chabra at MIIA. The enrollment coordinator may contact Lin Chabra to obtain the necessary document(s).

When the employee logs into the system he/she will be able to view the assigned training. Each employee that is enrolled in the program will automatically be assigned selected programs based on their job duties. The training consists of a lesson and test. Your municipal training coordinator will have access to reports on usage and scores. This information should be helpful in documenting the training and enabling you to track utilization.

An Administrator’s Guide will be provided to the training coordinator and a Getting Started Packet and User Guide will be supplied to each enrolled employee. These documents contain information on how to access the website and provide a guide for using the system.

Should you have any questions or problems a help desk is available at 1-800-980-9460. The hours of the help desk are Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Jeff Siena, MIIA Loss Control Manager at 617-426-7272, ext. 259 or Lin Chabra, MIIA Member Training Coordinator at ext. 250.

We look forward to working with you to implement this valuable training resource.

Property Conservation Program
Over the past five years, the MIIA Loss Control Department has distributed several tool kits directed at preventing property losses as part of our Rewards Program. By participating in these programs our members were able to earn credit towards their premiums. In an attempt to simplify the participation process by reducing the paperwork required for each of the programs we have consolidated them into one-four part program with the title of Property Conservation.

The four parts will consist of three revised existing programs as well as one new program. Below lists the amount of credit you can be awarded for each component for FULL participation in the program.
  • Freeze Up Prevention-1%
  • Roof Inspection-1%
  • Facilities Self-Inspection-2%
  • Indoor Air Quality (new)-2%

This is an inspection based program that requires quarterly inspections of your facilities. If you are interested in learning more about this program please contact your Loss Control Representative. Program materials and training will be provided upon request.

Safety Committee
MIIA Loss Control believes that a Safety Committee or Risk Management Committee can be a very important tool in communicating safety concerns and reducing losses. These committees provide a forum for each department to share concerns regarding safety and an opportunity to share resources. Your Loss Control Representative can also attend these meetings to offer additional expertise and to keep you informed on Loss Control programs.

In order to receive Rewards credit your committee must meet on at least a quarterly basis. Your committee must also complete an attendance form and your committee chairperson must submit meeting minutes. Both copies for each meeting must be submitted to Loss Control after each meeting in order to receive a 1% credit towards your Workers Compensation premium or Property premium if you are a P&C member only.
