LOSS CONTROL GRANT PROGRAM

Grants of up to $5,000 are awarded for the development of risk management programs and training and the purchase of safety equipment that you have no other means of funding.

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

The MIIA EAP is available to all full-time employees covered by workers' compensation. Members may choose from three options, of which MIIA assumes the cost of the basic level. Additional service levels are available at a nominal extra charge. The EAP may also be extended to cover public safety employees, such as police officers and firefighters.

SKATE PARK GUIDELINES

With the rising demand for municipal skateboarding and inline skating facilities, it is Vital that every effort be made to reduce injury and potential liability when planning and constructing these areas. MIIA has prepared a set of guidelines for the establishment and operation of skate parks.

PLAYGROUND SAFETY AND INSPECTION

This seminar covers potential liability hazards present on typical playgrounds. It contains realistic and practical risk management techniques. Participants receive instruction on how to set up and administer playground inspection and maintenance programs.

FIRE VEHICLE EMERGENCY VEHICLE DRIVER TRAINING (EVDT)

Two-day hands on workshop designed for fire department training officers. The first day shows how to present the program in your own department. The second day is in the field, using the techniques learned. Presented in a train-the trainer format, participants will receive an instructor's manual and master copy of the student guide. Videotapes and other course materials are available on loan from MIIA when needed.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH PRE-PLACEMENT MEDICAL EXAMS

For MIIA workers' compensation members, this program will outline the benefits of using Occupational Health facilities for workers' compensation injury treatment. It will also demonstrate the value of Pre- Placement medical exams on new hires.

INDOOR AIR QUALITY (IAQ) IN SCHOOLS

Participants will learn to identify and address existing and potential IAQ issues in municipal and school buildings.

DEFENSIVE DRIVING SERIES

MIIA offers several defensive driving training packages from the FLI-National Safety Council "Coaching Series", including:

Coaching the Maintenance Vehicle Operator II, Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator- Police, Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator- Fire Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator- Ambulance, Coaching the School Bus Drivers, Coaching the Utility Truck Driver, Coaching the Special Needs Van Driver, Coaching the Backhoe Operator"

DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING (MIIATEST)

The MIIAtest program provides on-site drug and alcohol testing services to municipal employers whose drivers are covered by the US Department of Transportation's drug and alcohol testing regulations. MIIA provides periodic supervisory training sessions for supervisors of CDL drivers, as required by the US Department of Transportation.
