This comprehensive training for Fire Departments includes 3 hours to a full day of classroom and practical instruction. Classroom topics cover pre-trip inspection, vehicle characteristics, intersections, braking systems, backing, night driving, and environmental conditions. The practical driver course (10-15 minutes per participant) includes straight line driving, backing, alley docking, serpentine, lane change, diminishing clearance, confined space turnaround, parallel parking, and backing with/without a spotter. Participants drive apparatus they operate daily, and the department must provide a suitable parking area for training. Requests for onsite training require a submitted form.
