This course provides Massachusetts police commanders, supervisors, and officers with key changes and

issues in law and procedure. Among the important topics covered:

1. Mcfarlane and the duty of prosecutors and police to disclose exculpatory evidence and police misconduct

history;

2. New standard for “collective knowledge” under Privette and the need for officers to “get on the radio;”

3. Traffic stop issues – running plates; search incident to arrest; motor vehicle exception; and inventories;

4. OUI alcohol and drugs — new cases on under the influence, operation, and post-arrest procedures;

5. Guardado and the police burden to prove the defendant does not have an LTC or FID;

6. OIC and 123, § 18 for mental health issues in the lockup;

7. Return of the “miracle statute!” — 266, § 126A;

8. B&E or attempts to a vehicle – a new way under 266, , § 16; and

9. Any late developments!
